Anti-wars find no solace at the DNC

July 30, 2004 ~ 2:07 p.m.

This particular piece of anti-war left-wing satire is actually pretty funny and clever. At least it demonstrates one healthy aspect about this years DNC conventionthe peace protestors are being held at bay.

Not only were they were caged off, and rightly so, given their great potential for causing mayhem, but a peace protestor with the womens protest group Code Pink, Medea Benjamin, was shown the doors to the FleetCenter after unfurling a banner exclaiming End the Occupation of Iraq! during Theresa Heinz speech.

Interestingly enough, Benjamin snubbed Nader, choosing to support Kerry instead, arguing that change could come within the ranks of the Democratic Party if only the anti-war voices of protest were loud enough.

The Democrats, however, know that loud enough is too loud, and they have learned their lesson. Kerry is the modern day Hubert Humphrey; it is 1968 all over again; and Boston needs to be safeguarded against the pot boiling over like it did in Chicago 36 years ago.

The Democrats know the nature of the anit-war beast and they have seen fit to rein it in. Preventative actions on the streets of Boston and the none-too-sympathetic reaction to Ms. Benjamins banner seem to prove the case.

Lieberman: We must support our brave and brilliant troops

I like Joe Lieberman a lot, and the Connecticut senator gave an excellent speech last night at the DNC, reiterating his commitment to a Democratic party that does not stray into extreme Left, soft-on-terror territory:

To make America safe again, we must keep our military strong. We must support our brave and brilliant troopsthe new greatest generationwho have liberated Afghanistan and Iraq from murderous tyrannies, and who are fighting tonight in both nations to defeat terrorists and allow free and stable governments to grow there To make America safe again, we must strengthen our defenses here at home. I am proud that we Democrats led the way in creating the Department of Homeland Security after September 11th In this campaign, we will vigorously disagree with the other side. But we should not resort to personally demonizing them to win the election. Such tactics are wrong, regardless of who practices them, because they divide and diminish America at a time when we must stand united and strong.

Some Dubya sauce with your freedom fries?

Now this is just downright hilarious. First, freedom fries, now patriotic catsup.

Being made in America and an alternative to Heinz is all very well, but is there seriously a marketplace for this catsup other than to the readers of National Review?

Sort of gives a different meaning to Ws on the sauce, doesnt it?
