Shut up, Trump!

July 14, 2004 ~ 11:55 a.m.

So Donald Trump would like to fire President Bush. I guess when youre rich and famous, you must suffer delusions of being able to talk all sorts of rubbish and sound like someone who actually cares more about the nation than your bank accounts, Trump, because youre not sounding knowledgeable or concerned, just plain obnoxious is all.

When I was last Stateside, in April, I remember my mother urging me to watch The Apprentice. I brushed off the suggestions.

Who wants to watch that rich asshole firing people? I asked. Sounds like a waste of a good half-hour to me. How relieved I am that I did not contribute to that shows ratings numbers.

Listen, Trump: For all your billions, you have no control over who the president is or what his policies are. So why dont you shut the fuck up and make some more people redundant (and, of course, blame Bush for the unemployment figures while youre at it)?

Mayor Red's Islamofascist buddy

I never thought Id have cause to align myself with the Green Party or the gay-rights group OutRage!, but both platforms can depend on my full support in their opposition to Red Ken Livingstone, mayor of London.

Apparently, Mayor Red thinks its fine and dandy to invite a gay-hating, anti-Semitic, pro-suicide bomber, wife-beating advocate, in the form of Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, into the U.K. for a speaking tour. And when the media and public express justified outrage, Mayor Red blames it on xenophobia.

"On behalf of the people of London, I would like to apologise to the Sheikh for the outburst of xenophobia in sections of the media, Livingstone told al-Qaradawi. Speak for yourself, asshole.

Red, apparently taking no notice of how close the mayoral race was this time around, continues to douse himself in controversy. Does he really admire al-Qaradawi as much as were inclined to think or is the Mayor just an attention whore? Its hard to tell sometimes. After all, this is the same man who conveniently bashes President Bush for being xenophobic and a threat to world peace, and the same man who mouthed off, just before the election, that hed like to see the Saudi royal family strung up and swinging from lamp-posts. (And, Ill bet you Mayor Red scratches his ass, then his head and wonders why Americans arent visiting London in quite the same numbers that they used to.)

But, going back to the Greens and OutRage!its good to see that some on the Left have actually retained their consciences. Darren Johnson, the Green Party representative on the London Assembly, proposed a motion to censure Mayor Red and denounce his decision to host al-Qaradawi.

A lot of people cannot comprehend why the mayor has given a platform to someone with such obnoxious views, said Johnson. He has done a lot of damage to relations with the gay community. There is a lot of hypocrisy on the Left from people who will condemn Christian fundamentalism or Jewish fundamentalism but turn a blind eye to Muslim bigotry. To hear words like these coming from the mouth of a Green Party member is refreshing.

Peter Tatchell of the gay advocacy group OutRage! has seconded Johnsons motion and aligned himself with the London Assemblys stance toward Mayor Red. According to last nights (July 13) edition of The Times, OutRage! demonstrated in front of City Hall as al-Qaradawi arrived, carry[ing] placards stating Qaradawi endorses stoning of gays and Dr. Q wants Muslim women forced to wear the hijab.

Rest assured, I have issues with the Greens and with OutRage! They are not exactly stalwarts of conservative thought. However, Johnson and Tatchell and their respective organizations can depend on my full moral support in the battle to oust Mayor Reds Islamofascist buddy from Britain.

Thoughts on the All-Star Game

It would be an understatement of considerable proportions to say that I couldnt have cared about this years All-Star Game, given that the American League team carried eight Yankees on its roster, proving yet again that the Yankees are the Lords Almighty of Major League Baseball. Dont tell me that it was on the strength of fan voting that eight players from the same team were placed on the AL All-Star roster, cause I simply aint buyin it.

However, two Red Sox players did us proud. Left-fielder Manny Ramirez clocked a home run off Roger Clemens, and designated hitter David Ortiz had two hits in the game, one of them a home run as well. Both players walked away from the game with two RBIs each to their credit, accounting for a good four out of the nine runs scored.

Ramirez and Ortiz did the smallone could almost say token Red Sox contingent proud and were definitely were key in the American Leagues 9-4 win over the National League.
