John Ritter, R.I.P. September 12, 2003 ~ 4:43 p.m. Any American aged 25 or over has got to be dismayed at this news: LOS ANGELES (Reuters) Emmy award-winning actor John Ritter, who gained fame playing bumbling and lovable characters in a pair of television comedies decades apart, has died suddenly due to a previously undetected arterial problem, his representatives said on Friday. John Ritter was one of the most talented comedic actors on American television although he did do brief forays into drama. I still remember the old Threes Company episodes, plus his cop-show comedy series during the early 90s called Hooperman. I saw the corny but hilarious film Stay Tuned in the theatre when it was released and many times on cable television thereafter. During recent trips to America, my sister told me about 8 Simple Rules: Youve got to see it, John Ritters in it! I only saw one episode of it, but I thought it was great that hed made a comeback into sitcom television. But to those who remember Threes Company, the passing of Ritter is a watershed moment. Thanks for the laughs, Tripper. M.E.M.
