Racicot: Dems play the race card yet again

June 15, 2003 ~ 12:03 a.m.

Chairman of the Republican National Committee Marc Racicot sent this letter to John Edwards, the upstart Jackass from North Carolina, concerning his role in the filibuster of Miguel Estrada to the D.C. Court of Appeals. It certainly defines with aplomb just how obsessed the Jackasses are with race but not merit:

I am writing to you with profound concern about your remarks at the MALDEF dinner last night regarding Miguel Estrada. Your comment, as reported by the media, that Miguel Estrada has the right last name, but no credible record of performance that qualifies him for appointment, is neither accurate nor fair. To suggest that a fellow attorney of such extraordinary accomplishment and character has been nominated to serve as a federal judge by the President of the United States in spite of his record and only because he has the right last name is disingenuous at best. The nomination of Miguel Estrada is based on his training, experience and accomplishments, not upon his surname. Please allow me to share with you the facts regarding Mr. Estradas record

Your suggestion that Miguel Estradas nomination is based on his surname and not on his record not only distorts the evidence, it reveals a willingness to diminish your obligation to perform a fair review of the record. It is my hope that as an experienced trial lawyer, a United States Senator, a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee and an aspiring presidential candidate, you will value accuracy and fairness in your deliberations.

Thank you, Mr. Racicot!
